In celebration of its 118 years of journalistic endeavour, Asian news publication, South China Morning Post (SCMP), has announced a partnership with The Sandbox metaverse.
The Hong Kong-based media goliath has acquired a humungous 576 LANDs within The Sandbox realm and plans to use it to immortalize the history of the region on the blockchain. Utilizing the medium of the metaverse, SCMP will resurrect the history, iconic spaces and significant events of Hong Kong and the surrounding area. To achieve this, they will construct a series of virtual tours, interactive experiences and playable games.
As one of the world’s most international cities, Hong Kong has a long and chequered history, which the South China Morning Post has followed since its inception in 1903. With this vast library of content to draw from, SCMP intends to create an interactive homage within the virtual space.
Among the many highlights is a record of the transformation of Hong Kong throughout the last 100 years. For example, the infamous Kowloon Walled City, formerly a densely packed den of depravity accessible to only the bravest souls, which has since evolved into the metropolis we see today.
SCMP’s giant plot can be viewed on The Sandbox’s virtual world map. Furthermore, adjacent plots to the complex will go on sale on July 22 in conjunction with the Sandbox Summer Jam.
